is anyone running in or volunteering for the Bandera 100K trail run? ARC was promoting Rogue and needing volunteers...i am thinking about going up and helping out, running on the nontrail areas of bandera and horseback riding...just curious. SORRY FOR the LONG POST :)
Are you interested in trail running? Wonder what it’s like to run all night? On January 13, 2007, you can see what it’s all about. Rogue Training Systems will be sponsoring the crucial “Crossroads” aide station from 7:00AM on January 13 to 3:00AM on January 14 during the Bandera 100K Trail Run. Approximately 350 to 400 runners will be competing in three concurrent races at distances of 25K, 50K and 100K – all on trails in the Hill Country State Natural Area – 10 miles outside of Bandera, Texas. Crossroads is the “D/FW airport” of the Bandera race and is really two aide stations in one. The 50K and 100K racers will see it several times during their journey.
What will volunteers do? Crossroads has 6 tables, requiring 12 people per shift to manage food and drink for the runners during the peak periods. Other responsibilities (requiring additional bodies!) include managing runners (course direction, care and feeding), keeping the aide station stocked, recording split times, keeping the area clean, cooking food, taking care of drop bags, and the infamous set-up and tear-down.
Ideally, we’d like to ask folks to commit to 6-hour shifts… but given the job… any time that someone can volunteer will be readily agreed upon. Volunteers get plenty of perks (the chance to “give back” to the local area’s running community; spending time in the beautiful Texas Hill Country; and trail runners know this is the big perk--all volunteers eat for free at the two provided meals (Friday evening / Sunday breakfast), as well as meals on Saturday to those volunteers at the aide stations during their shifts). And don’t forget… if you get a bit stir crazy… and need to run… Rogue will have a few less technical shorter runs arranged for volunteers.
The trail races at Bandera are extremely challenging and attract trail runners from all over the world. The Bandera 100K has an excellent reputation and Rogue will be playing a major role in that this year. I hope that you will consider this opportunity and join us on Saturday, January 13! If you would like to volunteer, contact Leah Nyfeler (email: leah@roguerunning.com or phone: 512.536.6998).

christmas activities were relaxing and surrounded by family. aaron and i went to ruidoso to snowboard/ski for a day. i took lessons to refresh. after all the travelling, el paso, ruidoso and dallas, i am so happy to be home. the house is cleaned, the laundry is done and i still have 1/2 a day to rest and relax before work resumes.
i keep thinking of making resolutions but i have found in the very recent past that everything i commit to about my physical goals in writing seems to be jinxed. i will just say that i am going to try to write more and spend more time building better relationships with family and friends this year.
